The New England Patriots have their new quarterback of the future: Mac Jones out of the University of Alabama will join the organization after getting picked 15th overall. He will now get a chance to compete for the starting position and fill the enormous “franchise QB” shoes that were left unoccupied ever since Tom Brady’s departure last year.

Before getting too far ahead of ourselves, however, let’s take a look back at the moment it all became official — the moment when special announcer Don Cox went onto the stage to announce that the Patriots had indeed selected Jones in the first round of the draft:

After taking the stage as the fifth quarterback drafted that day, the newly-selected QB what was expected. Hug commissioner Roger Goodell, take his first Patriots jersey and hold it into the camera, and give a first interview to speak about his experience.

Along the way, Jones revealed that joining the Patriots was pretty much the best-case outcome for him:

“This is what I wanted all along,” Jones said on the stage in Cleveland as the boos were raining down on him. “I can’t wait to play for really the greatest franchise, really, in NFL history. It’s going to be a lot of fun and we’re looking forward to it.”

In New England, Jones will join a quarterback group that also features incumbent starter Cam Newton as well as backup options Jarrett Stidham and Jake Dolegala. While Newton seems destined to keep the QB1 job for the time being, Jones will eventually take over.
