The New England Patriots entered Day 3 of the 2021 NFL Draft with five choices in hand, and three in all of them have been used. The latest pick, coming at the 188th overall selection in the sixth round, saw the Patriots add to their defensive backfield.

New England selected safety Joshuah Bledsoe out of Missouri.

A college teammate of Patriots linebacker Terez Hall, Bledsoe stands at 5-foot-11, 204 pounds and projects as a physical nickel safety capable of filling the “star” role held by Adrian Phillips and Kyle Dugger in 2020.

Bledsoe now joins the five players that New England already selected so far in the draft. The Patriots picked quarterback Mac Jones (Alabama) in the first round on Thursday, before adding defensive tackle Christian Barmore (Alabama) and edge defender Ronnie Perkins (Oklahoma) in the second and third rounds, respectively, one day later.

Earlier today, running back Rhamondre Stevenson (Oklahoma) and linebacker Cameron McGrone (Michigan) were selected as well.

After drafting Bledsoe, New England still owns two picks in the draft:

  • Round 6: 6-197
  • Round 7: 7-242
